MONTICELLO — The Monticello Public Library is gearing up for its bi-annual used book and media sale next week, offering thousands of used books, along with puzzles, CDs, DVDs and a silent auction too.

With something for all ages, from kids to adults, the sale will run from Tuesday, Aug. 13 through Thursday, Aug. 15 at the library, located at 200 W. 6th St.

The book sale will be open to the general public on Aug. 13 from 3 to 7 p.m.; Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Aug. 15 from noon to 6 p.m. In addition, there will be a preview for Friends of the Library and seniors only from noon to 3 p.m. on Aug. 13.

The final day of the event, on Aug. 15. will feature a buy-one-get-one sale along with the opportunity to fill a bag with books for only $10. The bag sale will run from 5 to 6 p.m.

Even without the bag sale, these used books are bargains, running anywhere from 50 cents to $2 each. Adult hardcovers will be sold for $2; paperbacks for adults will be $1; children’s hardcovers will be $1; and children’s paperbacks will be 50 cents.

In a popular book sale tradition, totes filled with various topics of books or media will be available during a silent auction that began Aug. 5 and runs until 6 p.m. Aug. 15.

The book sale is sponsored by the Friends of the Monticello Library, with all funds raised going to benefit library services.

The money is used to buy library supplies, fund scholarships, purchase bookshelves and new books and support library programs like “Books for Babies” and “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten,” according to Monticello Library Branch Manager Marla Scherber.

The book sale has been held for decades, and precedes the Friends of the Library group itself, which was formed in 2004.
