Utah Pioneer Day and Pie & Beer Day: Celebrating Tradition and Community
Utah, known as The Beehive State, was given its nickname by the Mormon settlers who saw themselves as hardworking and industrious as bees in a hive. Bees spend their whole lives working together for the survival of the community. And hidden under the bustling colony of bees is a treasure of honey. But what do bees have to do with Pioneers and Pie and Beer?

Be a Little Bit Naughty at Lehi Art’s MATILDA
LEHI — Growing up, the books of Roald Dahl and the imagination behind them were very important in my household. Making a drive to Lehi to see Matilda the Musical at the Lehi Arts Council in Friday traffic may seem a bit crazy for a Northern Utahn, but since this is the year anniversary of my mother’s death and I have vivid memories of her reading the book to me, I take any opportunity I can to see the musical with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and a book by Dennis Kelly. The story follows young, brilliant Matilda, played the night I saw the show by Alicia Wright, as she struggles with the trauma of parents who do not love her, a principal who mistreats her, and powers that she cannot understand.
From homeless to hope: Inside the Milestone Transitional Living Program
SANDY — The house is handsome but not remarkable from the outside: a beige brick rambler with a basement off 700 East and 8600 South in Sandy. There's a perfectly manicured yard and a small patio off the front porch where sits a heavy black bike rack. The place...
New plan outlines big changes ahead for Salt Lake City's fast-growing Granary District
SALT LAKE CITY — The Granary District has become a somewhat unlikely spot for Salt Lake City growth as its downtown core continues to move beyond its existing footprint. What was once a forgotten warehouse district by the entrance to Utah's capital from I-15 at 600 South, this area southwest of downtown is quickly budding into the next hip residential, restaurant and office space hub.

At least 17 vehicles have been contaminated after a fuel station in Rock Springs, Wyoming, mistakenly switched its supplies of unleaded and diesel fuel, locals have confirmed. The Kum & Go on Foothill Boulevard, which is now owned by Maverik, was running diesel through its premium unleaded pump and unleaded through its diesel pump last Tuesday and Wednesday, according to a repair shop employee who tried to help remedy the damages after the mix-up.
Law enforcement would need over $2.7 million this year to police and clean up new Fairpark District
The resources available to ensure public safety in the area of Salt Lake City chosen to become home to a possible new baseball stadium are insufficient, according projections by Utah’s public safety commissioner. “It just is to the point that I’ve got to have full-time resources given the amount of what we’re seeing, what we’re […] The post Law enforcement would need over $2.7 million this year to police and clean up new Fairpark District appeared first on Utah News Dispatch.
The Castle Country Area Welcomes 123 Remodeling to the Area
Chris Nunez has found a love for remodeling that goes back to his twenties,” I was probably about 20 years old in the oil field and worked for a company that had a ton, ton of FEMA trailers from Hurricane Katrina … So I was doing a lot of repairs and remodels and just fixing stuff.”
Utah's Straw Test Crackdown
Utah is known for many things—beautiful mountains, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mitt Romney—but it truly distinguishes itself when it comes to notoriously ridiculous alcohol laws. While the state's so-called "Zion Curtain" has widely been considered one of the dumbest booze rules in America, it turns out there is no limit on inane drinks laws in the Beehive State. In fact, state regulators have recently upped their bureaucratic ante by cracking down on bartenders who use a "straw test" to sample cocktails before serving.
