Thousands Still Without Power After Monday's Storm
Thousands of people in the Southern Tier are still without power after a storm came through the Binghamton area Monday night. According to the NYSEG website, as of 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, 1,481 people were still in the dark in Broome County. Chenango County is right behind with 1,454 people without power.

Village Grove construction on track in Trumansburg
Construction on the Village Grove development, projected to be the village of Trumansburg’s largest and greenest affordable housing project, is underway. The $27 million project is meant to bring 10 affordable rental townhomes or duplexes, as well as 46 affordable apartments in a two-story building, and nine lots at a market-rate price that could likely house 17 apartments, to the south side of the village by the end of the year.

When Dryden firefighter Amanda Brayton took a trip to Malawi in June, she quickly realized the vast differences between fire departments there and in America. Racker Rivals Big Red hockey game happening July 27th
ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — On July 27th, 2024, Racker will be hosting their annual exhibition game to benefit Racker’s Early Childhood Service Program. Racker, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide care and proper resources for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is now in their tenth year of putting on the Racker Rivals Big Red hockey game. Since the first annual game in 2014, Racker has raised over $1.2 million, all of which has gone to various facets of the Early Childhood Services Program.
UAW Local 2300 Members Rally As Bargaining Continues With Expired Contract
This past Thursday, umbrellas and fists were both raised high as approximately 50 members of the local UAW 2300 rallied to garner support for their bargaining efforts with Cornell University. Despite the rainy conditions, the union members collected at A-Lot to share words of encouragement and chant for the University to hear their demands.
Patrick Woodward, suspect in Elmira armed burglary, will serve 3 years in prison
One of three suspects charged in connection with an armed burglary in January in the City of Elmira will serve three years in prison for his role in the crime. Patrick Woodard, 24, of Elmira, was also sentenced in Chemung County Court this week to three years of post-release supervision after pleading guilty June 3 to a count of second-degree attempted burglary.

Five Cornellians Join The 2024 USA Hockey Women’s National Festival
Lexi Woodcock/Cornell Athletics ITHACA, N.Y. - Five Cornellians will take the stage in the 2024 USA Hockey Women's National Festival, which will be held from August 4-11 in Lake Placid, N.Y. at the Olympic Center. The Festival will include 75 players who are currently either playing professionally or at the collegiate level. Grace Dwyer '25, Lily Delianedis '25, Rory Guilday '25, Annelies Bergmann '27, and Izzy Daniel '24 will represent the Big Red during the festival. Area residents will have a chance to grab a cup of coffee with Sheriff Bill Schrom, Elmira Police Chief Kristen Thorne and Elmira Fire Chief Andrew Mallow later this month.
