MONTPELIER — A young Blackfoot woman is dead following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 89 just west of Montpelier.

The crash occurred at 8:44 a.m. Saturday when a southbound 2017 Chevy Spark subcompact car driven by a 20-year-old Blackfoot woman collided with a northbound 2019 GMC Terrain compact SUV driven by a 35-year-old woman from Ovid, authorities said.

The Blackfoot woman died at the scene while the Ovid woman suffered injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, Idaho State Police said.

The Ovid woman's condition hasn't been released.

The Blackfoot woman was wearing a seat belt while the Ovid woman was not, state police said.

The crash shut down Highway 89 for four hours.

Authorities haven't yet released the names of the women involved in the crash.

State police were assisted at the scene by the Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Bear Lake County Ambulance, Bear Lake County Fire Department, Montpelier Police Department and the Idaho Department of Transportation.

The wreck remains under investigation by state police.
