St. Louis County taking back control of operations of main pet adoption facility
OLIVETTE, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Almost two years after it handed over its main animal shelter to a non-profit, St. Louis County will be taking back control of the operations. In December 2022, the Animal Protection Association (APA) took over the operations of the man St. Louis County Animal Shelter in Olivette. It came four years after an audit recommended a change in how the shelter should be run. In 2018, as part of that audit, the Missouri Department of Agriculture found the facility euthanized more than 1,000 dogs and cats in 2018, 25 percent of the pets it took in. The department also detailed incidents in which it claimed facility employees were requiring pet owners surrendering their animals to fill out paperwork indicating they agreed to their animal being euthanized, without knowing what they were signing.

The theme for the 2024 Cole Camp Fair, which will be held on September 5, 6 and 7, in downtown Cole Camp, is “Still Cruisin’”. A livestock show will be a preliminary event that will be held on Wednesday evening, September 4, on the street in front of the bandstand on Hwy 52 beginning at 7:00 PM.
