Career offender alerts issued for two men in Santa Rosa County, Flordia
MILTON, Florida — The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office has issued a career offender alert for two men residing in Milton. Christopher A. Vaughn, a 41-year-old white male, is registered at 5178 Springdale Dr. Vaughn, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 150 pounds, has brown eyes and brown hair. His qualifying offenses include two counts of aggravated battery (victim pregnant), aggravated assault on law enforcement, grand theft firearm, resisting an officer with violence, and depriving an officer of protection, according to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office.

The “Renegades and Juke Box Heroes Tour” featuring Styx, Foreigner and John Waite is coming to The Wharf Amphitheater in Orange Beach on August 16 at 6:45 p.m. Styx is known for hits like “Blue Collar Man,” “Lady,” “Come Sail Away” and “Mr. Roboto,” and Foreigner’s hits include “As Cold as Ice,” “Hot Blooded,” “Juke Box Hero” and “Feels Like the First Time.” Waite made his name with hits “Missing You” and “When I See You Smile.” AL.com reports that prices started at $28 at StubHub and $29 on Vivid Seats.
Orange Beach City Schools Earns National Accreditation
Orange Beach City Schools recently announced it has earned Cognia Accreditation. Cognia is a nonprofit that provides quality assurance for schools, school districts and education service providers. It nationally recognizes districts that meet rigorous standards focused on productive learning environments, equitable resource allocation that meets learners’ needs and effective leadership. To receive this accreditation, Orange Beach City Schools said it participated in an extensive self-assessment process and comprehensive evaluation led by Cognia experts who compared the procedures and practices of all aspects of the district to research-based standards and evidence-based criteria. To earn Cognia accreditation, a school district must implement a continuous improvement process and submit it for internal and external review. Schools in good standing can maintain their certification for a six-year term.
Duck’s Diner Opens Second Location In Former Hazel’s Nook Location
The owners of Duck’s Diner in Orange Beach have opened a second location in the former Hazel’s Nook, a Gulf Shores breakfast spot that recently closed after 67 years, AL.com reports. Duck’s Diner—which, like Hazel’s, is open for breakfast and lunch only—began in 2003 in Orange Beach. Duck’s Diner co-owner Garrett Spence’s mother, Michelle Deerman, bought the business in 2014. Spence joined her as a co-owner a few months later. Unlike Hazel’s, Duck’s Diner won’t have a breakfast buffet and will sell alcohol. A 16-ft bar will replace the buffet area. The Duck’s Diner breakfast menu, which is available all day, includes omelets, pancakes, country ham, steak and eggs, corned beef hash and a breakfast burrito, as well as the restaurant’s signature banana-stuffed French toast with butter pecan sauce. The lunch menu features burgers, po’ boys, wraps, chicken tenders, a ribeye steak and a Rueben sandwich, along with another Duck’s Diner specialty, Gouda cheese grit cakes topped with grilled shrimp, grilled tomatoes and a Creole sauce. Spence will own the building, and he and his mother will co-own the restaurant at 120 East Fort Morgan Rd. in Gulf Shores.

Jamarrion Gordon, a three-star defensive back in the 2026 class, flipped his commitment Friday afternoon from Alabama to Central Florida. Gordon -- from Jackson, Alabama in Clarke County -- had committed to the Tide in May, and was one of two 2026 prospects committed to Alabama. He now becomes the second 2026 commit for coach Gus Malzahn and UCF.
United Way Kick-Off Luncheon To Feature Strug
Individual tickets are on sale for the United Way of Baldwin County 2024 Campaign Kick-Off Luncheon featuring Olympian Kerri Strug as guest speaker, Mullet Wrapper reports. The annual event, which usually sells out, will be held on September 5 at the Daphne Civic Center. Doors open at 11 a.m., and the program begins at noon. Auburn landed commitments Saturday from two four-star prospects from Alabama in the Class of 2026. Linebacker Shadarius Toodle, from Cottage Hill Christian Academy, and edge Hezekiah Harris, from Jemison High School in Huntsville, announced their commitment while attending Big Cat Weekend, Auburn's annual recruiting event. Toodle is ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 5 linebacker and the No. 67 player in the class overall. Harris is the No. 4 edge rusher and No. 30 overall. "It's just the atmosphere," Toodle told Auburn Undercover about his decision to commit to Auburn. "I loved it every time I came up here. I've been up here like four times. My family loves it. The Mobile Section of the Alabama Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America is hosting the 56th Annual Bonanza Day Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo and Golf Tournament on August 9 and 10. There are already more than 500 people registered for the event, and the registration deadline is August 1. The Big Game Fishing Club at Orange Beach Marina will again be headquarters for this event. The golf tournament, which is currently sold out and has a waiting list, will be played Friday at Craft Farms Golf Club over the Cotton Creek and Cypress Bend courses. Proceeds from this year’s Chipping Contest will be donated to the Alabama AGC Scholarship Fund.
