In-state 2026 defensive back committed to Alabama flips to Gus Malzahn, UCF
Jamarrion Gordon, a three-star defensive back in the 2026 class, flipped his commitment Friday afternoon from Alabama to Central Florida. Gordon -- from Jackson, Alabama in Clarke County -- had committed to the Tide in May, and was one of two 2026 prospects committed to Alabama. He now becomes the second 2026 commit for coach Gus Malzahn and UCF.
United Way Kick-Off Luncheon To Feature Strug
Individual tickets are on sale for the United Way of Baldwin County 2024 Campaign Kick-Off Luncheon featuring Olympian Kerri Strug as guest speaker, Mullet Wrapper reports. The annual event, which usually sells out, will be held on September 5 at the Daphne Civic Center. Doors open at 11 a.m., and the program begins at noon. A two-time Olympian and gold medalist, Krug was the youngest Olympian at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona at age 14 and was part of the American team at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. After shocking spectators by falling and injuring her ankle on her first vault, she stuck the landing on her second vault before collapsing in pain, helping to secure gold for the American team that became known worldwide as “The Magnificent Seven.”

Auburn gets commitment from pair of 2026 blue chips on defense
Auburn landed commitments Saturday from two four-star prospects from Alabama in the Class of 2026. Linebacker Shadarius Toodle, from Cottage Hill Christian Academy, and edge Hezekiah Harris, from Jemison High School in Huntsville, announced their commitment while attending Big Cat Weekend, Auburn's annual recruiting event. Toodle is ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 5 linebacker and the No. 67 player in the class overall. Harris is the No. 4 edge rusher and No. 30 overall. "It's just the atmosphere," Toodle told Auburn Undercover about his decision to commit to Auburn. "I loved it every time I came up here. I've been up here like four times. My family loves it. Bonanza Day Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo Registration Deadline August 1
The Mobile Section of the Alabama Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America is hosting the 56th Annual Bonanza Day Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo and Golf Tournament on August 9 and 10. There are already more than 500 people registered for the event, and the registration deadline is August 1. The Big Game Fishing Club at Orange Beach Marina will again be headquarters for this event. The golf tournament, which is currently sold out and has a waiting list, will be played Friday at Craft Farms Golf Club over the Cotton Creek and Cypress Bend courses. Proceeds from this year’s Chipping Contest will be donated to the Alabama AGC Scholarship Fund.

Amtrak service from N.O. to Mobile could be a reality by Super Bowl
Passenger rail service could return to the Gulf Coast between New Orleans and Mobile early next year, thanks to a new agreement between the city of Mobile and Amtrak. Mobile city leaders said last week they have finalized language for a funding agreement and ground lease that will pave the way for construction of a new train stop — the final hurdle needed before the service can begin. A majority of the Mobile City Council, which had opposed the deal earlier this spring because of concerns over its cost, is expected to approve the agreement next week.
