MONTVILLE, NJ - The cover band 3 Shades of Green performed at the Montville Community Park Amphitheater on July 31 as a part of the Township's Summer Concerts in the Park.

A crowd gathered on the steps of the amphitheater and the surrounding grass, setting up chairs and blankets to enjoy the show.

Lead singer Chris Schappert began the show by telling the crowd how the band typically plays in bars, so the outdoor stage was a refreshing change. The band proceeded to open with “Can’t You See” by The Marshall Tucker Band.

Schappert would interact with the crowd between each song, following the applause from the crowd. During “Roadhouse Blues” by The Doors, he had the crowd sing the line “And I got myself a beer.”

“You might have heard this one once or twice in your life,” said Schappert before singing “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Unfortunately, the band had to cut the show short due to forecasted thunderstorms. Earlier in the show, there was light rain, though most of the crowd stayed despite the drizzle.

“We are so fortunate to have these free concerts in town,” said attendee Elissa Cannilla. “I love to relax with family and friends and check out the food trucks.” She attended the concert with her daughter, Sophia Cannilla.

The food trucks at this concert were Kona Ice and Chow Wow.

The Summer Concerts are every Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. until September 4. For more information, you can visit this website: https://www.montvillenj.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=655 .
