Non-profit expanding service in southside Spartanburg food desert
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - It’s been nearly a year since southside Spartanburg’s Piggly Wiggly store closed. The move returned the southside community back to food desert status. Meaning, the community doesn’t have access to purchase fresh and affordable foods within a reasonable distance. Shortly after the store closed, a non-profit stepped up to fill the gap in resources.

Midlands Tech awarded $1M grant to expand construction program in fast-growing SC
COLUMBIA — Midlands Technical College will expand its construction trades program with a $1 million grant, the largest single corporate gift in the school’s history. The grant to Midlands Tech is one of 35 awarded by the Lowe’s Foundation since the company’s nonprofit arm started its Gable Grants program last year in an effort to train more workers in skilled trades.
