Fire strikes barn, carport, vehicles in Moorpark area

A two-story barn, carport and multiple vehicles caught on fire in a blaze reported Tuesday afternoon off Balcom Canyon Road in the Moorpark area, officials said.

The incident reported around 1:30 p.m. was quickly upgraded to a working fire, Ventura County Fire Department Capt. Brian McGrath said. The site is located north of Highway 118 between Somis and Moorpark.

McGrath said no people were harmed, but that two cats were in the barn and it's unknown whether they escaped.

Firefighters reported shortly before 3:30 p.m.that the fire was extinguished.

The fire spread to a nearby area, but the brush clearance was so effective that small portion of the blaze went out by itself, McGrath said.

No homes were destroyed, he said.
