'Veteran' Simulate Shows the Way in Saratoga Maiden Special
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – A pinch of seasoning produced a maiden-breaking recipe for Simulate (Kitten's Joy) Saturday in the opener at Saratoga Race Course. Making his second career start for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott, Simulate was in front from gate to wire on the inner turf course to win the $100,000 maiden special weight for 2-year-olds by a head over State's Rights (Constitution). The son of Camou (War Front), a half-sister to GI winner Lea, completed the 1 1/16 miles contest in 1:45.46. He paid $19.60 as the 8-1 fourth choice in the field of 10.
Fierceness Wins 2024 Jim Dandy Stakes in Thrilling Finish
Saratoga Springs, NY (WRGB) — The annual appetizer to the Travers Stakes just wrapped up in the last hour, with Fierceness taking home the 2024 Jim Dandy Stakes. It was neck and neck at the final turn, but Fierceness managed to outrun Sierra Leone and others in the final stretch. Entering the Grade Two race with the second-best odds, Fierceness, the Florida Derby winner, most recently finished 15th in the Kentucky Derby.
Sunday’s Saratoga picks – July 28
The third week of the Saratoga Race Course meeting comes to a close Sunday with a 10-race card topped by the Grade 2 Bowling Green Stakes going long on the turf. A field of seven entered the 11-furlong grass exam, including Godolphin’s multiple Grade 2 winner Silver Knott, multiple Grade 1-placed Soldier Rising and Grade 1 Manhattan third-place finisher Ohana Honor. The Bowling Green goes as the ninth race on the card with post time at 5:45 p.m.
