UPDATE 7/20/24 (WNCT) — Morehead City and Emerald Isle officials released new information surrounding a two-vehicle accident in Morehead City. The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 70 and Highway 24 and involved an Emerald Isle ambulance.

Emergency lights and siren were activated when the ambulance was struck in the intersection, according to a news release from Morehead City. “Following an investigation, the driver of a 2016 Dodge Challenger was issued a citation for Fail to Yield to Emergency Vehicle (Injury to Property or Persons),” the release stated.

“Only minor injuries were sustained as a result of the collision. The driver was the sole occupant of the Dodge Challenger, while there were two Emerald Isle Fire Department employees and a patient being transported in the ambulance,” officials said.

Another ambulance from the Newport Fire Department assisted in taking patients to Carteret Health Care for evaluation and treatment.
