New public charter school in Avimor opens its doors
The calendar didn’t read Dec. 24 or Dec. 31, but the hallways and classrooms of Idaho Novus Classical Academy had an aura not unlike a holiday eve on Tuesday. That’s because years of planning and work came to fruition Wednesday as about 378 students walked through the school’s doors for its first year of bringing education to students at the kindergarten through sixth-grade levels.
Dubois prepares for upcoming annual Memorial Rodeo
DUBOIS — The Fall season brings students and educators back to school. Back to School Night took place at Lindy Ross Elementary on Aug. 26, the night before school started. ”The Place to Bee” was the Clark County Fair Aug. 15-17. To kick off the fair, there was a free dinner for the community at Waring City Park Aug. 16. At the dinner there was a smoked meat contest. Winners of that cook off contest are: 1) Bret Taylor; 2) Johnathan Spiess. After the dinner the livestock show took place. Even though there was a downpour of rain, a crowd gathered to watch and to bid on the 4-H animals. There was also a Round Robin for 4-H contests where they show their skills in working with a variety of animals. When the fair was open to the public at the Dubois Community Building, folks got to buy baked goods, watch a demonstration of beekeeping by Kevin Vincett, look at 4-H projects and vote for their favorite Open Class Contest items. There were door prize drawings held periodically throughout the two days of the indoor activities. JC signs $300,000 contract with CFD for ambulance services
Following a discussion with Central Fire District and Idaho Falls Ambulance at their previous Jefferson County Board of Commissioners meeting, the board chose to approve an ambulance service contract with Central Fire on Aug. 19, for $300,000. A contract with Idaho Falls Ambulance will be reviewed and considered at a later time.

SAINT MARIES, Idaho -- Heyburn Elementary School in Saint Maries is celebrating its centennial, and teachers and staff going back decades returned to the school to honor the occasion.
New clinic coming to Grace
The location of the clinic scheduled to begin construction in Grace next year. The location is just south of the City Park. At last week’s City Council meeting, the council was joined by Kent Loosle, CEO of the Caribou Medical Center, members of the CMC team, and a number of doctors living in Grace to announce the acquisition of land for a planned clinic coming to town sometime in the near future. “We’ve met with the architects. We want to design the facility through the winter, then begin construction when the weather changes in the spring,” Loosle said.

Etna’s JACZ Drive-In featured in Jeff Foxworthy Segment
A local Star Valley business found themselves in part of a television segment with comedian Jeff Foxworthy on Wednesday. Jeff Roper with KIFI Local News 8 in Idaho Falls had Foxworth on the air. The two were doing a segment called “Redneck or not?” where Roper would show Foxworthy local images and ask if they were redneck. Roper showed a video clip of the famous Fry Sauce wagon at JACZ Drive-In in Etna. “A trailer with fry sauce in it. That’s hall-of-fame level redneck,” joked Foxworthy.

Laser engraver causes house fire in Blackfoot
BLACKFOOT — A laser engraver was the cause of a house fire in Blackfoot Monday evening. The Blackfoot Fire Department responded to the blaze at 5 p.m. on Hoff Drive. Blackfoot Fire Chief Bryon Howell said the property owner was using a laser engraver and cutting wood products. She stepped away and smelled smoke, he said.
