Labor Day closures for Copperas Cove announced
In observance of the Labor Day holiday, all city of Copperas Cove facilities will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2, to include the solid waste transfer station. The week’s collection schedule will be as follows:. Sept. 2: Closed for the holiday.

Memorial services for Kathy Elizabeth Gorman, 61, of Kempner, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove. Inurnment will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Mrs. Gorman died Aug. 17, 2024, in Temple.
Texas Skateland: ‘Fire was not caused by arson or anything our family did’
The owners of Texas Skateland say they have been cleared of responsibility for the fire that destroyed the decades-old Harker Heights roller-skating rink in July. In a social media post this week, Texas Skateland said they were cleared by the Harker Heights Fire Department and their insurance company from suspicion of arson or foul play.

Capital murder arrests made in shooting of Ross truck stop clerk
Authorities arrested three men Thursday on charges stemming from the fatal shooting of a truck stop clerk in Ross last month and a robbery and beating in Hewitt. At a Friday news conference, McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara said two of the suspects are charged with capital murder in the shooting of Dipak Oli, 30, in the early hours of July 28 at the truck stop in the 16000 block of North Interstate 35.

OPINION: Concerns of Chaparral-area residents get little response
Residents in far south Killeen are caught in the crossfire. Traffic on Featherline and Chaparral roads continues to increase, especially since the start of the new school year and the opening of a second school in the area.
CROSS COUNTRY: 4A Salado places both teams in top 3 of 5A/6A division at Vista Ridge
Enrollment suggests Salado should not compete at the Class 5A-6A level. The results, however, indicate otherwise. With 721 kids attending the school, the Eagles and Lady Eagles reside in Class 4A, where they are far from the biggest school in the conference — an honor that belongs to El Paso Ysleta with 1,311 students.
