MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Two former Mountaineer athletes and a former WVU football head coach appear on the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot.

Running back Steve Slaton, a unanimous First Team All-American in 2006 and former Sugar Bowl MVP, is on the ballot for the first time. He joins former Mountaineer defensive back Aaron Beasley and former head coach Jim Carlen on the 2025 ballot.

Slaton, a three-time All-Big East performer, is West Virginia’s all-time leader in rushing touchdowns with 50, and ended his collegiate career as the NCAA’s active leader in points per game. He produced three consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 rushing yards.

Slaton is a former Doak Walker Award finalist. He also placed fourth in Heisman Trophy voting in 2006.

One year after helping the Mountaineers to an undefeated regular season in 1993, Beasley led the country with 10 interceptions in 1994 and became a First Team All-American. He is also a two-time All-Big East First Team honoree.

Carlen coached at West Virginia from 1966-69 before stints at Texas Tech (1970-74) and South Carolina (1975-81). In 16 years as a head coach, he reached eight bowl games and produced 13 winning seasons. He earned the title of national coach of the year in 1973 as the leader of the Red Raiders.

More than 12,000 NFF members and Hall of Famers received their 2025 ballots today via email. Membership voting will end July 1.

The announcement of the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be made in early 2025, with more specific details announced in the future.
