The Mountaineers are making their presence known on Sundays both in the spring and in the fall.

Former WVU football players Gary Jennings and Kenny Robinson Jr. both logged significant contributions for the Birmingham Stallions as they won the inaugural United Football League (UFL) Championship Sunday night in a 25-0 thrashing of the San Antonio Brahmas at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis.

Jennings was the only player with a receiving touchdown in Sunday’s game. He hauled in two receptions for 19 yards, one of which was an eight-yard touchdown catch from Adrian Martinez to put the Stallions up 6-0.

This season, he appeared in seven of the Stallions’ 11 games, and he caught six passes for 98 yards. He reeled in 168 catches for 2,294 yards and 17 touchdowns during his Mountaineer career.

Robinson Jr. produced two solo tackles in the win. He recorded 34 total tackles this season with two tackles for loss, and he also snagged one interception.

At WVU, he appeared in all 25 possible games in his two seasons. He led West Virginia as a sophomore in total takeaways (five) and interceptions (four), which also tied him for second in the Big 12. In two seasons at WVU, he intercepted seven passes, and he entered the transfer portal in 2019 before ultimately joining the first XFL reboot for its inaugural season in 2020.

There, he played for the St. Louis Battlehawks and was eventually drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers, where he played from 2020-2022. After a brief stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers last offseason, he signed with the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL, which merged with the XFL this season to create the United Football League (UFL).
