New brewery and burger place coming to Morgantown in August

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Marion County brewery Short Story Brewing announced on Tuesday that it will be expanding with a new location in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Short Story Brewing in Morgantown will be located at 94 Long St., next to the Morgantown-Westover bridge on the Westover side. The property was previously considered by Chestnut Brew Works (CBW) in 2022, but CBW ended up expanding to a different building on Pleasant Street earlier this year.

“The craft beer community in Morgantown has literally been the lifeblood of our business, and we wouldn’t exist without the support and enthusiasm of this community. Now we get to be a part of it. What a world!” the brewery said in a Facebook post.

12 News spoke with Short Story Brewing’s owner Aaron Rote, who said this new location will be a beer hall-style taproom with burgers and other food served through a partnership with Lefty’s Place called “The Burger Place.” Lefty’s Place is a Morgantown restaurant known for its wings and pizza, and has done a similar collaboration with Short Story Brewing in Charleston.

Short Story Brewing can already be found in Rivesville, Charleston and McHenry, Maryland, making this Morgantown expansion its fourth location.

Short Story Brewing in Morgantown is aiming to open some time in August before the return of students and the beginning of football season. Although the location is called Short Story Morgantown, it technically falls within Westover city limits and is not currently included in the Morgantown PODA boundaries.
