Benefit concert will raise money for WVU Cancer Prevention

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — An upcoming concert will raise money for cancer prevention while also keeping the memory of a late music lover alive.

On July 26 at 6 p.m., the organization will host Tonie’s Country Road Concert to College Tour at Mylan Park’s Mon County Center featuring Cooper Crossing, Wyatt Turner and Haley and the Hard Way.

After Tonie Renner Gentile, a music lover, passed away at the age of 52 following a short battle with breast cancer, her husband Mark established Tonie’s Fund, a nonprofit that focuses on the early detection of breast cancer, according to a press release.

The proceeds raised will go towards the WVU Department of Cancer Prevention and Control .

“One reason I really liked the WVU program is that it’s a statewide program,” Mark said in the release. “It’s not just local to one community or one location. It goes across the entire state. The more we can reach out, the more we can support, the better chance that someone won’t go through what we went through.”

The concert will also include a tribute wall for those in attendance to honor a loved one who has battled cancer. Names can be sent to Mark at tonies.fund@yahoo.com .
