MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) – Camp Mountaineer Summer Camp staff members who provided leadership anywhere from the 1950s to 2024 came together at the camp for a reunion on Sunday.

Staff members who participated in the Camp Mountaineer 70 th Anniversary Staff Reunion got to experience fellowship and reminisce about their staff service. Alumni were also provided a lunch and were able to shoot rifles and shotguns, coast down the quarter mile zipline and see the changes that have occurred at camp.

Tony Antonini, a volunteer with the Mountaineer Area Council, Scouting America, said that it was great to be back on the property.

“This place teaches kids today to love their county, to fall in love with the state of West Virginia, um and to really understand family life. That’s what we’re doing, that’s what we’re celebrating today,” Antonini told 12 News.

Keeping with scouting fashion, all attendees received a commemorative 70 th Anniversary Camp Staff Alumni Badge. The event was sponsored by Wes Metheney, who worked on the camp staff in the 1950’s and previously served as council president.

“It’s a great time for comradery of all the old people that you worked with back when you were 10 and 12 and seeing that most of the people in there are highly successful and scouting had a lot to do with that,” said Metheney.
