“Could Be Glen Campbell Reincarnated”: Charles Wesley Godwin Takes Over Late Night With Special “Family Ties” Performance

Although seeking a career in football, life had other plans for Charles Wesley Godwin while he attended West Virginia University. Attending the college for finance, the country singer learned to play the guitar. But it went far beyond the guitar as he also practiced a great deal of songwriting. Drawing influence from singers like Willie Nelson, Chris Knight, and Kris Kristofferson, it was only a matter of time before Godwin found his way to the stage. And recently, he took over late-night television with a performance of “Family Ties.”

Over the years, Last Show with Stephen Colbert welcomed countless stars to discuss their careers and even perform. But on Monday, the audience and viewers at home received a special treat when Godwin took the stage. With “Family Ties” a hit song from the country singer, it appeared the perfect choice.

Just last September, Godwin, with the help of his band, The Allegheny High, released the album Family Ties, which focused on the importance of family. As for the performance, fans loved Godwin’s presence on the stage, writing, “This is a nice song. I was not expecting to like it. Now I’m looking up their music.” Another person simply put, “Great show.” Another fan wrote, “Could be Glen Campbell reincarnated.”

Charles Wesley Godwin Talks Football And Music On SportsCenter

Outside of performing on stage, Godwin also appeared on SportsCenter on Sunday to talk about his time at WVU and even Coach Neal Brown. He even recalled how the coach and some of the players came to watch him perform. “We played down at the Texas Club in Baton Rouge last fall, so him and some of his teammates came out to the show and they came up for Country Roads.”

Although knowing the coach was a fan of music, Godwin added, “I knew he was a fan of the music, but I didn’t find out until the first game when he went out there to warm up. Lots of West Virginian’s are Pirates fans and so they’re tagging me, ‘Man, he’s warming up to Cue Country Roads.’ I absolutely love it and it seems to be good luck because he’s killing it.”
