Indian Museum director to retire
The City of Wichita has announced that the executive director of the Mid-America All-Indian Museum will retire at the end of this year. April Scott has served as executive director since 2010, but she has been with the city’s Division of Arts and Cultural Services for 26 years. Scott first joined the City of Wichita as a teaching artist at CityArts in 1998, leading classes in tapestry weaving. In 2005, she moved with CityArts as head of fiber arts and glass from the purple building on Water Street to its current location on Old Town Square. That year, she also began working part-time at what was then known as the Mid-America All-Indian Center, moving to work there full time in 2007.

Sunday forecast: Cooler but muggy, chance of storms
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The big weather story today will be the highs mainly in the 80s vs 90s from yesterday. We’ll also have more cloud cover and monitoring a slightly higher chance for storms moving through the area this afternoon (compared to what it looked like earlier this morning). This is coming in from Nebraska but there is uncertainty on how much of it will hold together but it is going to be something to be aware of. We’ll get another chance for storms tonight as well. Both rounds of storms may be severe with damaging winds the primary concern although overall, lightning and locally heavy rain will be the main hazards.

Gordon Parks Museum receives Kansas Arts Commission General Operating Support Grant
Fort Scott, Kan. Aug. 16, 2024 – The Gordon Parks Museum is one of the recipients to receive grant funds from the Kansas Arts Commission for General Operating Support. The museum’s grant award amount is $16,000. Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland announced $1,295,450 has been awarded to 108 recipients in the latest round of Kansas Arts Commission (KAC) grant funding. The funds will support museums, arts education, music, dance, visual arts, professional and community theater, creative writing, murals, poetry and other creative projects.
Great Bend High School offering several discount ticket options
High school sports practices begin around Kansas on Aug. 19. Games will follow shortly after that. Great Bend High School is offering a few ways to get into those activities at a discounted rate. Activities Director Matt Westerhaus said Great Bend High School and Great Bend Middle School students are eligible for a student pass for $30.
