    Track and Field Recaps May 3-7

    Below are summaries of local track and Field meets between May 3 and May 7,compiled by Sports Editor Nick Tabatt.

    Pioneers on a role in last two meets

    The Pierz Pioneers track and field had great performances at the Section 7A True Team Meet in Crosby Tuesday, May 7. The girls team placed first with a score of 580 and are on their way to True Team State Saturday, May 18. The boys team placed second in the meet (565.5). Chloe Lochner took first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:32.78. Abigail Virnig placed first in the 100 meter hurdles (18:00) followed by Autumn Jones in second (18.06). Allison Skiba took second in the discus throw (105’5), along with Beverly Rentz in third (95’ 0).

    The Pioneers’ Wyatt Dingmann took first in the shot put (42’11) and the discus (126’6). Wyatt Betsinger took first in the 800 meter run (2:11.30).

    The Pioneers were also in Crosby for the Crosby-Ironton Sports Boosters Invite Friday, May 3. Both the boys and girls took first. Aiden Jones took first place in the 100 meter dash (11:40), followed by Brayden Foust in second (11:73). The 4x100 relay team (lucas Kunstleben, Kyle Stangl, Logan Gross and Foust finished first with a time of 47.77. Caleb Koch won the pole vault (12’0).

    Morgan Litke won the girls 1,600 meter run (6:05.61) as well as Quinn Gruber in the 3,200 meter run (12:54.37). Two Pioneers girls relay teams won their events at the meet. The 4x100 team (Hailey Gail, Maya Gahler, Avery Gruber and Claire Gruber) finished in 52.73. The girls 4x800 meter team (Kate Hoheisel, Billie Maye Pohlkamp, Sophie Leidenfrost and Chloe Lochner) crossed the line at 11:01.76.

    Patriots’ Joseph Guthrie breaks team 1,600 meter record

    The Upsala/Swanville Patriots took on local teams at the Long-Prairie Invitational Friday, May 3.

    The boys team took fifth place and the girls finished sixth.

    The Patriots continue to break records, as Joseph Guthrie took first place in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:38.08, beaking the record from 2016 (4:38.77). Joseph also took first in the long jump (20-00.50). Quinn Guthrie took second in the 3,200 meter run (10:50.77).

    The Patriots girls’ Geneieve Mrozek took second, throwing for 89-08.25. Lexis Brever took third in the 1,600 run (5:57.87). Madison Tschida also took third in the 100 meter race. Alyssa Young took fifth in the long jump (14-05.00).

    Royals finish eighth at Section 7A True Team meet

    The Royalton Royals track and field team competed at the Section 7A True Team meet in Montevideo Tuesday, May 7. Both boys and girls team placed eighth.

    The Royals’ Max Vannurden led the boys with a third place finish in the high jump (5’8).

    For the girls, Aurora Walberg took first in the 200 meter race (27.76). Walberg also placed second in the 100 meters race (12.44) and in the high jump (5’0).

    The Royals also competed in Mora Thursday, May 2, where the boys and girls took third out of four teams. Carlson Pop took second in the 100 meter race (12.11) followed by Zach Rudolph in third (12.51).

    Walberg took first in the 200 meter race, finishing in 27.00. The 4x100 relay team (Walberg, Claire Prokott, Haylie Wolbeck and Lydia Prokott) won with a time of 51.75.
