Pioneers end season in elimination bracket finals
The Pierz Pioneers baseball team ended the season, playing Albany in the Section 6AA elimination bracket semi final Thursday, June 6. The Pioneers fell 10-3. The Pioneers batters with runs batted in were Max Barclay, Weston Woitalla and Joey Stuckmayer. Those who scored runs were Reese Young, Kaden Kruschek and Kyle Wincher. Townball Tour in Pierz coming up on June 19
Fox 9’s Townball Tour is coming to Legion Field in Pierz Wednesday, June 19. All baseball games involved are free to the public. The event will start with a VFW doubleheader between Pierz and Princeton at 11 a.m. The Pierz Bulldogs will take on the Pierz Lakers at 5 p.m., followed by the Pierz Brewers and the Buckman Billygoats at 7:30 p.m. Youth teams will play at other fields in the area, early in the afternoon. An honorary first pitch will be held before the Bulldogs and Lakers game at 4:45. Four of the Fox 9 talents will throw to the Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Hall of Famers of Pierz. Fox 9’s ice cream truck will offer free ice to the first 300 customers. Lawn games will also be set up behind the grandstand.

Great success for Swanville Supermilage Team at BIR
During the 2023-24 school year, the 18 students enrolled in the super milage class at Swanville High School built several vehicles. Flyers end season in State consolation bracket
The Little Falls Flyers baseball team had another tough battle in the state tournament Friday, June 14. They took on St. Thomas Academy and lost 6-0. Although the Flyers were shut out, both teams kept each other at bay. STA didn't score until the top of the fifth inning, with its first three runs. It's last three runs was scored at the top of the sixth. The Flyers' Peter Knopik pitched five innings, throwing five strikeouts. Izaak Kalis pitched two innings, with one strike out. STA ended the game with 13 hits and no errors. The had one hit from Garrett Lindberg and one error. After the game, STA advanced to the consolation finals against Mankato East later in the day. The Flyers ended the season with a 18-8 and 8-5 in the conference.

Felony DWI charges dismissed against Teague
One felony charge of fleeing a police officer, two felony charges of DWI and one misdemeanor charge of interfering with a peace officer were dismissed against Dawn Marie Teague, 38, Little Falls, in Morrison County District Court. The charges stemmed from a Jan. 20 incident. The charges were dismissed because she passed away, according to County Attorney Brian Middendorf.
Morrison County District Court gross misdemeanor charges filed
Morrison County Attorney Brian Middendorf and his staff have filed gross misdemeanor complaints against the following individuals: • James Claude Sura, Jr., 54, Little Falls — In connection with a May 24 incident, Sura was charged with two counts of DWI. • Kyle Dale Kuklok, 23, Burtrum — In connection with a May 27 incident, Kuklok was charged with two counts of third-degree DWI. • Luke Wilson Ulm, 40, Brainerd — In connection with a June 2 incident, Ulm was charged with one count of driving after cancellation.

Handshoe convicted on felony theft charge
Trevor Joseph Handshoe, 19, Little Falls, was sentenced in Morrison County District Court to 19 days in local confinement and five years of supervised probation and fined $100 for one felony count of theft. The conditions of Handshoe’s supervised probation include completing a comprehensive assessment and following all recommendations, no alcohol or controlled substance use and submitting to random testing. The Little Falls Flyers had a hard fought battle in the quarterfinal round of the State tournament Thursday, June 13. Despite players having good hits and great pitching from Carter Gwost, they fell to Totino-Grace 4-0. The Flyers moved on to the consolation backet Friday, June 14. . G.O.L.F. Extravaganza tournament set for June 15
Golfers Organized for Little Falls (G.O.L.F.) is having its 17th annual Extravaganza Tournament at the Little Falls Country Club. Saturday, June 15. The tournament will include hole-in-one prize opportunities, dinner and social and a silent auction. G.O.L.F. will also honor three past members who pioneered the event: Al Bauman, Jim Weiss and Bill Hubbard. Proceeds from the upcoming tournament and those from previous years are used towards making improvements to the golf course, supporting the Flyers boys and girls high school golf teams and sponsoring the Little Falls Community Services Youth Golf program. Royals girls 4x100 relay team finishes fourth at State
The Royalton Royals girls 4x100 meter relay team took fourth place among the best during the 2024 State track and field meet at the St. Michael Albertville High School June 6-7. The group of Claire Prokott, Haylie Wolbeck, Aurora Walberg and Lydia Prokott finished fourth in prelims, crossing the line at 50.26. They took fourth again in finals with a new school record of 49.92. Walberg also competed in two sprinting events at the meet. She took 14th in the 100 meter prelims (12.73) and 18th in the 200 meter prelims (26.62) The top nine competitors in both events advanced to finals.
Patriots' Joseph Guthrie makes top five in three events at State
The Upsala Swanville Patriots’ Joseph and Nicholas Guthrie had great performances at the State Track and Field meet in St. Michael Albertville June 6-7. This includes Joseph making top five in three out of the four events he competed Joseph took third in the high jump, with a height of six feet and six inches. In the 800 meter run, Joseph took sixth in the prelims with a time o 2.00.00. He finished fourth in finals with 1:56.61 Joseph also placed fifth in the triple jump, leaping for 43-11.75. In the long jump, he reached 20-07.50, good enough for 12th place. Nicholas Guthrie finished 20th in the discus throw. He launched for a distance of 133-06.
