July 23, 2024 – In response to shortages of EMTs in the region, Santa Fe College has expanded its Emergency Medical Technical certificate program to Bradford County. The 16-week industry certification course prepares students for a career caring for the sick or injured in emergency medical situations. EMTs provide on-scene life support, working with paramedics, firefighters and law enforcement officers, to stabilize and transport patients to hospitals.

As we celebrate National Blueberry Month in July, a University of Florida dietitian says the fruit could be called “power berries.”. “Blueberries have fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, manganese and potassium, and they have some of the highest antioxidant levels of all the common fruits and vegetables,” said Andrea Nikolai, the family and consumer sciences agent for UF/IFAS Extension Polk County. “Consuming blueberries has also been linked to improved memory and slower rates of cognitive decline.”

The SEC is a line of scrimmage league, and Florida football needs to show improvement up front to contend with the top teams in the conference. The Florida Gators lost top pass rusher Princely Umanmielen (7 sacks, 11.5 tackles for loss in 2023) to Ole Miss last season, but added new defensive line coach Gerald Chatman, who brings a no-nonsense approach in leading the position group. Chatman was hired from Tulane after Florida jettisoned former defensive line coach Sean Spencer, who landed at Texas A&M.
