Gang Members Sentenced: 31 Years for Violent Crimes

Jakeem Gibson-Madison and Terick Rogers, members of a Jersey City gang, sentenced to a combined 31 years in prison for their roles in shootings and drug distribution.

MORRISTOWN, NJ - Two members of a Jersey City gang associated with the Marion Gardens Housing Complex were sentenced to lengthy prison terms for their involvement in multiple shootings and other gang-related crimes, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced today.

Jakeem Gibson-Madison, also known as "Beanz," 30, and Terick Rogers, known as "Moot," 32, both residents of Jersey City, were sentenced by U.S. District Judge Claire C. Cecchi in Newark federal court. Gibson-Madison received a 15-year prison sentence, while Rogers was sentenced to 16 years. Both men were also ordered to serve five years of supervised release following their imprisonment.

Court documents and statements revealed that Gibson-Madison, Rogers, and others were members of a street gang tied to the Marion Gardens Housing Complex. The gang was involved in the distribution of cocaine and heroin in and around the complex and engaged in various violent acts, including assaults, shootings, and murders, often targeting rival gang members.

Gibson-Madison participated in a shooting on January 9, 2019, where he drove another gang member to the area of Grant Avenue and Ocean Avenue to target a rival. During the incident, his accomplice shot two individuals and attempted to shoot a third.

Rogers was involved in a separate shooting on June 30, 2018, where he and two other gang members collectively shot five people during a "Meech Day" celebration, an event held in honor of a deceased gang member.

The investigation leading to these charges was conducted by the FBI, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Jersey City Police Department as part of the Jersey City Violent Crime Initiative (VCI). Formed in 2018, the VCI is a collaborative effort between the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Jersey City Police Department, aimed at reducing violent crime in and around Jersey City.
