Language is the essence of one’s culture. It is ingrained into each person from a very young age and tells the world who you are and where you come from in a matter of seconds. This characteristic is the basis for San Toossi’s 2023 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, English, now on stage at the Guthrie Theater in co-production with the Goodman Theater.
Prayer ribbons at the Cathedral in Faribault
Among the flowers, trees and shrubbery fronting a side entry to the space that connects church to guild house, three red benches nestle. Bold. Vibrant. Statement pieces in a garden at The Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour. But those benches outside the massive limestone church towering above the landscape along Second Avenue across from Central Park in Faribault serve as more than a place to rest. They are a place for prayers ...

Rattler bites rare but Winona hospital ready
WINONA, Minn. – Nobody in recent memory recalls any rattlesnake bite cases at the Winona hospital, but the pharmacy director, Jill Ender, says the emergency room is prepared. Antivenom serum can be flown from Mayo Clinic Rochester on short notice, she said. There usually is a six-hour window to treat a bite, Ender said. Because of the rarity of bites and a short expiration of the antivenom, the hospital doesn’t stock its own supply.

Edouard Julien returns to the Twins lineup, but it’s costing Carlos Correa
It’s been a minute since we’ve seen Edouard Julien in the Minnesota Twins lineup, but that streak will end on Saturday. When Twins return to action against Milwaukee, Julien will be back on the 26-man roster, along with Austin Martin. Both of them were called up to join the team as the second half the season starts but it’s a move that will cost Minnesota a pair of key pieces. Carlos Correa was placed on the IL, and while they won’t be out for long the Twins will miss the offense they’ve been providing over the last month.
