    Air Quality Alert, Excessive Heat Warning in Morristown Area Until 8pm Wednesday July 17

    MORRIS COUNTY, NJ -- The brutal heat seemingly is not ready to move on and will continue this week. An Air Quality Alert is in effect until 11pm Monday evening.

    An excessive Heat Warning is now in  effect until 8pm Wednesday evening.  Heat indexes are expected to reach as high as 105 on Tuesday.

    A heat wave is defined as at least three consecutive days with temperatures that reach 90 degrees or above.

    HOW SHOULD I PREPARE?

    Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk. Residents are advised to use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning.

    To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.

    Officials are advising residents to check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors. Officials also say heat stroke is an emergency. In cases of heat stroke, call 911.
