MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (WATE) — An international aerospace company is expanding its Morristown location with plans to create 50 new jobs and invest nearly $28 million into the area.

With headquarters in Pittsburgh, Howmet Aerospace has locations in 13 countries and 15 states across the United States. The company’s decision to expand its operations in Morristown represents a substantial additional investment of $27.9 million in Tennessee.

The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development describes the company as a leading provider of “advanced engineered solutions for the aerospace and transportation industries.” The company creates engine and turbine components, fastening systems, forged wheels, and more.

“It’s always a great day when an industry leader like Howmet Aerospace decides to expand in our community. They have been a wonderful business partner in Morristown, and I’m thrilled for our citizens to have 50 new career opportunities. I thank the company leaders for their notable investment, and I look forward to seeing all of their continued success,” said Rep. Rick Eldridge (R-Morristown).

Several local leaders, including Morristown Mayor Gary Chesney, Hamblen County Mayor Bill Brittain, and Industrial Development Board of the City of Morristown Chairman R. Jack Fishman, shared their enthusiasm for Howmet Aerospace’s presence and growth in the area, citing the company’s longstanding contribution to East Tennessee’s industrial base and job market.

“Our partners in Morristown and the broader East Tennessee community have played an integral role in the success of Howmet Aerospace’s Morristown operations. We’re so very proud of these longstanding relationships that have enabled us to grow and prosper over the past several decades. Howmet Aerospace is grateful for the support of our state, local and regional partners who have been consistent and longstanding advocates for each investment we’ve made in this community.”

This comes as Morristown has seen a lot of growth over the past five years . In March, the mayor shared that the city’s population has grown by about 3,000 people in the last five years with another 3,000 people projected to move to the area in the next five years.

The expansion announcement also coincides with the Farnborough International Airshow, which kicked off in the United Kingdom on July 22, showcasing Howmet Aerospace’s growth on the global stage.

“East Tennessee has a rich background in the aerospace and defense industry, making Morristown the ideal location to support another expansion for Howmet Aerospace. This company employs 900 people regionally, and it’s not lost on us that these new jobs and this investment could have gone to any one of the company’s global locations. I’m grateful to Howmet Aerospace leadership for recognizing our outstanding business climate, and I wish them the best of luck moving forward,” said TNECD Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter
