Chicagoan Frank Giannelli set out of Monroe Harbor early Thursday morning to raise funds for the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watchThe jet skier had an audience as he trekked out of the Chicago shore at 7:15 a.m. Giannelli's intention is to trek 100 miles across Lake Michigan to Saugatuck, Michigan.The full journey across the lake should be around three hours.Giannelli has already raised $25,000 for Get Behind the Vest, which helps Chicago police purchase bullet proof vests.With the money already raised, the foundation can purchase 50 vests for CPD.Police officers receive their first vest when they are sworn in, however they are responsible for paying for the replacement.To learn more about the organization, click here.

Chinatown Library Branch Reopens After Nearly 4-Month Closure
CHINATOWN — The Chicago Public Library Chinatown branch quietly reopened Tuesday after being closed since April for building repairs. The branch at 2100 S. Wentworth Ave. was initially set to reopen June 8 after completing “needed lighting and HVAC repairs and replacements,” Patrick Molloy, director of government and public affairs for the Chicago Public Library, said in an emailed statement. But engineers found “the cooling system was unable to properly cool the branch to comfort levels,” and the library remained closed for an additional six weeks, Molloy said.

CHICAGO (CBS) — The Secret Service will release security measures for the Democratic National Convention.Governor JB Pritzker, Mayor Brandon Johnson and Superintendent Larry Snelling will hold a media conference with the Secret Service at 11:30 a.m.The DNC will take place from August 19 through August 22 at the United Center and McCormick Place. Security is expected to be very tight, especially in the wake of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.The Chicago Police Department has been working with law enforcement in Milwaukee following the Republican National Convention. An update is expected Thursday. On Sunday, President Joe Biden announced he would end his 2024 re-election bid and endorsed his vice president, Kamala Harris, as the party's nominee. According to new rules passed Wednesday by the party's convention rules committee, the Democratic Party will select its new nominee virtually as soon as Aug. 1. The DNC also established that the party's candidate, which is likely to be Harris, must pick a running mate by Aug. 7, Ohio's current ballot deadline, which remains in effect.

Former sheriff's deputy who fatally shot Sonya Massey held 6 police jobs over past 4 years
The former sheriff’s deputy who fatally shot Sonya Massey in her Illinois home while responding to her call for help has held six different police jobs since 2020, the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board confirmed to ABC News. Body camera footage released Monday shows former deputy Sean Grayson yelling at Massey, an unarmed 36-year-old Black woman and mother of two, to put down a pot of boiling hot water. The footage, reviewed by ABC News, shows that Massey told the deputy, "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus," and then she apologized after the officer threatened to shoot her. She poured the water into the sink and ducked down behind a counter, covering her face with what appears to be a red oven mitt. She briefly rose, and Grayson shot her three times in the face. A review by Illinois State Police found that Grayson was not justified in his use of deadly force.
