    For Trey McCarthy of Lewiston, hockey has been more than just a pastime, or even a competitive endeavor.

    It has represented the chance to see the world.

    The 17-year-old, who is completing high school online, played at the squirt and peewee levels for the Boise Jr. Steelheads, then at Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy as a bantam. Branching out further, he competed for the Las Vegas Jr. Golden Knights AAA team at age 14, then took turns at 15 with the Colorado Springs Tigers and at 16 with the Connecticut Chiefs.
