Simplot donates $50,000 to support Moses Lake student activities

MOSES LAKE, Wash. — The J.R. Simplot Company has donated $50,000 to the Community Athletics & Activities Organization (CAA) to support the Moses Lake School District (MLSD) during the 2024/2025 school year.

The donation will help ensure that more than 8,000 students served by the MSLD will have access to sports and other extra-curricular activities for the coming school year.

On May 3, MLSD announced an $11 million account error, caused by mismanaged balance sheets that counted money twice.

The accounting error forced the MLSD to issue budget cuts, resulting in 268 layoffs.

“Through donations like this, and our golf tournament in September which raises scholarship funds for local students, we hope to encourage local youth to stay in school and find their passion,” said Efrain Valdez, Plant Director of Simplot’s Moses Lake facility.

According to CAA President Ryan Carpenter, this donation brings their fundraising total to $159,000.

Simplot’s Moses Lake french fry plant is one of 10 potato processing facilities the Idaho-based company operates worldwide.

The Company recently broke ground on another Moses Lake facility that will bring more jobs and financial benefit to the area.

Simplot is headquartered in Boise, Idaho. Visit the Simplot website .
