Evacuation prep not new for Mosier residents affected by Microwave Tower Fire

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — For residents in Wasco County affected by the ongoing Microwave Tower Fire , the prospect of evacuating is nothing new.

Water, flashlights, portable chargers and more can be found in the to-go bags of many families living in Mosier as they wait to hear if or when they need to leave for safety.

Angelina Musik and her husband have lived in Mosier for the past 16 years. With the Microwave Tower Fire approaching, they may be forced to leave. But this isn’t the first time.

Nearly 15 years ago, the Musiks were forced to evacuate from a wildfire. Now they know exactly what they need in case it happens again.

“So if we needed to, we could evacuate. We have our go-to kit. All that’s prepared. We have our plan of action, of where to go for how long,” Angelina Musik said.

Currently, the 1,306-acre (2 square-mile) fire is 53% contained. About 100 residents are impacted, whether that is being evacuated or standing by.

According to the most recent post from the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page on Tuesday, the evacuation levels have remained the same since Monday. Parts of Mosier, where the Musiks live, are currently at Level 2 “Get Set.”

Level 3 “Go Now!” evacuations are in place for Highway 30 South to Hood River Road, east to Rock Creek and Huskey Road, and west to the Hood River County line.
