My youngest son knew how to read certain words at age 1 and could read sentences at 2. I was a stay-at-home mom and every morning I would sit down and read the newspaper at the kitchen table while he ate breakfast. He was always a curious boy and he would point to certain words or sentences on the newspaper and ask me what it said. I was shocked one day when I was in the waiting room for a doctor's appointment for him, and he picked up a storybook he had never read or seen before and he started reading it to me at age 3. This wouldn't have happened if I had been sitting there on my phone texting.
