The hellcat did have better kill numbers. But also many more hellcats than the Corsair. The p51 was very good against the 109. Very hard to compare against each other because they fought different aircraft.

the hellcat, the Corsair, the thunderbowl, are all better aircraft than the P-51 and a lot of other crap that flew in world war II. especially the lightning. the P-51 was taken down by ground fire. when all the aircraft that used that radial double wasp engine, could come back with parts hanging out that engine. they'd make it back to the carrier or they'd make it back to land
