Warm and bit muggy today, turning more comfortable this weekend
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - We won’t get the full relief from yesterday’s cold front for at least another day. This morning starts out in the 60s with clear skies, and a patch or two of fog possible. This sunshine sticks around for much of the day, though some scattered clouds may develop as we reach the peak heating hours of the afternoon. Temperatures will be on the warm side, reaching the mid to upper 80s, with a fair amount of humidity still present. A westerly breeze should develop this afternoon, providing a touch of relief from the warmth.
Burlington Man Arrested Following High Speed Chase
Yesteday afternoon, August 15, 2024, Des Moines County Deputies observed a possible stolen vehicle traveling south on US Highway 61 near 210th St. Deputies attempted to catch up to the vehicle to verify that it was stolen. The vehicle then accelerated and attempted to elude law enforcement while traveling south on US Highway 61 at speeds greater than 25 miles per hour over the posted speed limit. It has been reported speeds as high as 115 miles per hour. Scanner communication confirmed stop sticks were deployed and contacted by the eluding vehicle on Highway 61 North of Burlington. The vehicle continued to elude law enforcement until pulling over near Roosevelt and Mt. Pleasant St. At the time of the arrest there were upwards of six Des Moines County Sheriff’s Deputy vehicles.
ADM’s Jon Hatchitt Focusing on Leadership Prior to 2024 Football Season
A player from the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Football team is working on his leadership skills to translate to the field. Senior Jon Hatchitt is playing Linebacker and Running Back for the Tigers this season. He’s been attending many football camps in order to get himself in shape, plus finding time to get into the weight room. Hatchitt tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he’s all in on being a leader for ADM with his words.
Cooler Weekend Ahead with Drier Weather by Sunday
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - As the evening progresses and the sun sets, any lingering weather activity will diminish, leaving partly to mostly clear skies. Clouds will increase toward daybreak on Saturday, with lows dipping into the mid-60s. Saturday will be slightly cooler with highs in the mid-70s to around 80, influenced by a northwesterly wind and increased cloud cover. By Sunday, the weather will dry out as the low-pressure system moves away, leading to a pleasant end to the weekend with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. Cooler, more comfortable air will settle in early next week, with lows in the mid to upper 50s and continued dry weather, except for a slight chance of rain on Wednesday.
