Chamber names July Small Business of the Month
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Janitorial Solutions (formerly known as Janitorial Supply) has a rich history dating back to 1943, when Fred Blick and his family founded the company as a window washing business. Over the years, it has evolved significantly, particularly after the 2008 recession, when Gary Newcome purchased the business from Fred in 2011. Gary's decision to diversify and modernize the company has been instrumental in its growth and success.
IdeaTek expands to Ark City
ARKANSAS CITY, Kansas — Super-fast fiber internet service will soon be available to hundreds of Arkansas City families and businesses, thanks to IdeaTek. The Buhler-based internet company will begin construction in August. By fall, IdeaTek will begin delivering unlimited and uncapped speeds of up to 2.5 gigabits per second to the city’s first few neighborhoods. IdeaTek's 100-percent fiber investment of nearly $6 million will connect over 6,100 homes and businesses to fiber.
Birthday Card Shower For Eva
Eva has to be an inpatient for her 11th birthday as she is immunocompromised due to radiation and chemo. To celebrate her birthday this year, we want everyone to send her a card and remind her of how much of a rockstar she is. Our address is 1861 NE Belleview Columbus KS 66725. Will and James will be bringing all of her cards up on August 1st (her birthday is August 2nd). Please do not send flowers, she can not have them due to hospital rules! Renewable energy storage company to lease Great Bend property
Takkion Operating LLC, a logistics and transloading provider for renewable energy, will be creating a space in Great Bend. There are currently 14.6 acres of land on the north end of the Great Bend Municipal Airport that are being leased for storage. With WATCO leasing five acres of the parcel on a month-to-month contract, the Great Bend City Council approved a lease with Takkion for 9.6 acres.
Family from former Rosa's Mexican Restaurant takes over kitchen at Fiesta Topeka
It's no surprise there were long lines Wednesday afternoon outside the Marlo Cuevas Balandran Activity Center for food at the Fiesta Topeka. Word had spread that the Barron family — members of which once operated the legendary Rosa's Mexican Food — were making their signature burritos and queso at the fiesta. Customers were eager to fill their bellies.

Junction City says goodbye to Dinkel
Junction City said goodbye to its longtime city manager Allen Dinkel on Wednesday in a retirement reception at the Municipal Building in Junction City. Dinkel, who has served 35 years in local government and the last 10 in Junction City said he doesn’t have any concrete plans at this time during retirement, but he hopes to spend most of it with family.
The Junction City Rodeo is this weekend
The 30th annual Junction City Rodeo is this Friday, July 19, and Saturday, July 20, at the Geary County 4-H Fairgrounds Arena. The rodeo begins at 7:30 p.m. on both nights. The theme for Friday night is 'Tough Enough to Wear Pink' and Saturday night's theme is 'Red, White and Blue.'
Be Well Barton County giving away bikes, helmets July 20
In 2022, a record 1,084 cyclists were killed in crashes with vehicles, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Tens of thousands more riders are injured each year while on their bicycles. That makes bicycle safety all the more important. SEDGWICK COUNTY —In April, USD 262 Valley Center suspended the schools baseball season due to an investigation of alleged animal cruelty after a chicken was killed on the baseball field at the high school before a game, according to the Valley Center Department of Public Safety.
