“Footloose,” the Broadway musical that features music and lyrics by Tom Snow, Dean Pitchford and Kenny Loggins, is coming to the Westonka Performing Arts Center April 11-21, with shows at 7 p.m. on April 11, 19 and 20; and 2 p.m. on April 14 and 21.

Produced by Mound Westonka High School Theatre, “Footloose” is about dancing, community, and family. A toe-tapping musical, “Footloose” will have audiences dancing in their seats. The show features 61 MWHS students in the cast, pit and crew.

“’Footloose’ is such an iconic film and the musical follows the same story,” said Director Jamie Harms. “Even better, the stage show features all the songs from the soundtrack that many remember from the original movie 40 years ago or the remake in 2011.”

Based on the popular 1984 movie, when Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, he is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. But he’s not prepared for the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, who is determined to exercise control over the town’s youth. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges pins a father longing for the son he lost against a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.

To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated Top 40 score, augmented with dynamic new songs, “Footloose” celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people while guiding them with a warm heart and open mind.

“The show has high-energy dance numbers and show-stopping ballads and dancing, so much dancing!” said Harms. “But the story at heart is so much more than the dancing - it is about grief and loss, family, love, community, and most importantly, healing.”

Tickets are available now at www.westonkapac.com. Tickets are $7 for students/seniors and $12 for adults – please note there are separate links for each show. Buy early to get your choice of seating.

A content advisory is provided regarding some strong language and suggestive behaviors in the show. MWHS Theatre provides this advisory, so that you can decide what is appropriate for your family.

“This show has been so much fun to create, and we know the audience will be dancing with us by the end!” added Harms.

    The “Footloose”production staff includes:
