The Mound Westonka boys golf team had a busy week with four meets in four days. The rainy forecast made it look doubtful that they’d get to compete in all four, but mother nature cooperated, and the meets went on as planned. Temperatures were in the 40s - 50s for most of the rounds with some wind and rain, but the White Hawks were ready for it.

Monday, April 29 kicked off with the team hosting nineteen schools at the Mound Westonka Invitational at Burl Oaks Golf Club. Sophomore Luke Sunnarborg led the way for the White Hawks shooting an 84, while senior Michael Proulx and freshman Hudson Pundsack each shot 92, and sophomore Wes Foley turned in a 95.

Tuesday brought another meet close to home, a 9-hole conference meet at Pioneer Creek Golf Course in Maple Plain. The team placed fourth, with Holy Family taking first. Sophomores Dillon Peterson and Luke Sunnarborg each shot 39s for the White Hawks, with Pundsack not far behind at 41, and Foley finishing with a 50.

The team got to enjoy a best ball format at the Cardinal Invite on Wednesday at Southbrook Golf Club in Annandale. Sunnarborg (78) and Peterson (84) combined their best holes to score a 73 for their duo, placing them in the top ten of the tournament. Pundsack (83) and Foley (93) put together a 79, and 8th grader Leif Kellner (92) and sophomore Brady Musel (97) posted an 89.

Thursday brought the team’s highlight of the week, with many players shooting season best scores. The 5AA Section Preview was held at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker. Pebble Creek is a tough course so getting a preview of it before the section meet is a great opportunity, plus it allowed the boys to check out their competition.

Luke Sunnarborg carded 13 pars and a birdie en route to a 75, earning second place, just one stroke behind first. Senior Mikey Oftedal had his best round of the season, shooting an 87. Eighth grader Leif Kellner made an immediate impact in his first week playing with the varsity team, also finishing with an 87. Fellow varsity rookie, Hudson Pundsack contributed an 89, helping the team to third place, their best finish so far this season.

Next up for the White Hawks is Lord Nelson’s Classic at the Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan on May 7 and a conference meet at Oak Ridge Country Club in Hopkins on May 9.
