MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - It’s cooler but still humid for the first day of August, and there are leftover showers for part of Thursday. Scattered showers are possible in the morning as an area of low-pressure scoots by. The system will rotate south and eastward, bringing the chance for isolated afternoon rumbles before the system falls apart.

Increased penalties for straw purchasing among new laws taking effect in Minnesota on Thursday
(KSTP) – Gov. Tim Walz will be in Bloomington on Thursday afternoon to highlight the new increased penalties for anyone caught making straw purchases of guns. Straw purchasing is when someone buys a firearm for someone who can’t legally own one. The penalty now increases to a felony, which is punishable by up to two years in prison. In June, Walz did a ceremonial signing of the bill, which also allows an aggravating factor that could push the penalty up to five years in prison.

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Minnesota State Trooper Ryan Londregan is "exonerated" following a state Department of Public Safety internal affairs review of the Ricky Cobb II fatal shooting, Londregan's defense attorney Chris Madel told FOX 9's Paul Blume. A finding that would seemingly clear the way for the trooper’s return to patrol duties.

Thunderstorms raced across the Plains and Midwest Wednesday, knocking out power to a quarter of a million people, many in the Omaha area. Severe thunderstorms raced across the Plains and the Midwest on Wednesday, dropping hail as large as 5 inches in diameter in Minnesota, with a 4-inch-diameter stone reported in Prairie View, Kansas. The Minnesota hailstone may have been the largest reported in the state in 38 years. Winds gusted over 90 mph at several locations in Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota.
Minnesota Supreme Court Overturns Aiding and Abetting Murder Conviction of St. Cloud Man
(KNSI) — A St. Cloud man convicted of aiding and abetting first degree murder has had his conviction overturned by the Minnesota Supreme Court. Prosecutors in Clay County say 32-year-old Abdi Mohamed Abdi of Fargo was found shot to death in a Moorhead gas station parking lot on September 10th, 2021. Prosecutors filed aiding and abetting charges against Ibrahim Abdiaziz Isaac on October 5th after they said he drove alleged triggerman Idris Haji-Mohamed and one other man from St. Cloud to Fargo the day of the shooting. Police say they fled the area and returned to St. Cloud, where Isaac was arrested nine days later.
