Gold, Khourey & Turak host free town hall meeting on selling oil and gas rights

Moundsville, W.Va. (WTRF) – Many residents across the Ohio Valley have made some serious money selling off their mineral rights, but it’s not a process to take lightly.

The law firm Gold, Khourey and Turak hosted a town hall meeting this evening to help the public answer critical questions.

They focused on if selling your mineral rights is the correct decision, how to negotiate the best price, the tax implications, and making sure you actually own the mineral rights before you try to sell them.

“We’ve run into that situation time and time again where a buyer has paid for a person’s minerals, only to find out that you don’t actually own the minerals and that buyer comes knocking back on your door saying ‘Hey, we want our money back.’ So you’re going to go back and look at what that deed says. What’s the language in the deed? Are you protected, or are you not protected? So it’s about getting the best price but it’s also about protecting yourself and your family into the future.”
