    CPR, truck driving, dealer license classes on tap

    Surry Community College is offering a CPR certification class that will meet in Room 122 at The Center for Public Safety, at 1220 State St. in Mount Airy.

    The class will be held on Friday, May 24, from noon to 4 p.m. and will certify students with Healthcare Provider-level CPR as it meets the American Heart Association guidelines for such.

    Class B Trucking

    Surry Community College is offering a Class B Truck Driving class at The Yadkin Center this summer. Registration for this class will be held on June 4, at 10 a.m.

    The Class B license is required to drive any single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, and any such vehicle towing a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating not in excess of 10,000 pounds. After successfully completing this course, students will be able to drive delivery trucks, cement trucks, dump trucks or any vehicle that doesn’t hook to a fifth wheel.

    The registration, orientation, classes and graduation will be held at SCC’s Yadkin Center which is located at 1001 College Drive in Yadkinville.

    The required orientation is scheduled for May 28, at 10 a.m. The class graduation will be held on July 24.

    The class begins on June 10, with the first class held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The class is formatted with a flexible 6.5 -week timeframe with four weeks of online and 2.5 weeks of in-person driving classes.

    The online portion of the class will be held from June 10 to July 7. The in-person driving class will be held from July 8 to July 23. The in-person class will meet at 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday. On Thursday, the in-person class will meet from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    Prospective students must be at least 18 years old, hold a valid driver’s license with no limiting restrictions, and provide a copy of their high school diploma or GED certificate/transcript or be able to take and pass a reading placement test.

    Students must also be able to read and speak English well enough to take instructions from highway signs, to converse with officials, and complete the required reports. Students must posses a Class B CDL permit, pass a pre-employment drug screen, and pass a Class B Medical Exam.

    The tuition cost for this class is $1,000.

    Auto Dealer Course

    Surry Community College is offering an Auto Dealer Pre-licensing Course and an Auto Dealer License Renewal Course at the Yadkin Center, in Yadkinville.

    The pre-licensing course is required by the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles for professionals to obtain a license to be an automobile dealer in North Carolina. This class will be held on Monday, May 27, and Tuesday, May 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a tuition cost of $146.

    This course is designed to meet the 12-hour training requirement for individuals seeking an initial Used Motor Vehicle Dealers’ license. Course content will include an in-depth review of North Carolina motor vehicle dealer rules, regulations, and application requirements.

    The license renewal class is required by the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles for professionals to renew a license to be an automobile dealer in North Carolina. This class will be held on Thursday, May 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a tuition cost of $126.

    The license renewal course is designed to meet the six-hour training requirement for individuals renewing their Used Motor Vehicle Dealers’ license. Course content will include a refresher of North Carolina motor vehicle dealer rules and regulations along with in-depth discussion of any rule or regulation changes made in the past year. Completion of this six-hour course meets the requirements of the North Carolina Independent Auto Dealers Association for the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles for license renewal.
