    • A Surry County man was arrested last Wednesday in Mount Airy as a fugitive from justice and jailed under a $51,500 secured bond, according to city police reports.

Corrie Anderson McClain Jr., 44, of 202 Fisher Peak Trail, was encountered by officers during a welfare check at Circle K on West Pine Street and found to be wanted in Carroll County, Virginia, on an unspecified matter.

McClain also was charged Wednesday in Mount Airy with possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on Monday.

    • Brandon Lee Vidro, 26, of 919 N. Main St., No. 2, is facing seven charges — including felony speeding to elude arrest — stemming from a May 25 incident in which he “actively fled” from a traffic stop and was arrested after a short vehicle pursuit on North South Street at Orchard Street, police records state

Vidro also is accused of having no insurance, no operator’s license, no registration and driving a vehicle without a license plate displayed, along with possession of marijuana and possessing marijuana paraphernalia.

He was held in the Surry County Jail under a $1,000 secured bond and is scheduled to be in District Court on July 29.

    • Both Walmart and a Siloam woman were victimized in an incident that began with the theft there of a brown Louis Vuitton wallet valued at $100 belonging to Alexis Ann Cox of Holts Lane and the subsequent obtaining of $542 in cash from the store through false pretense along with a $31 bag of Purina dog food.

The loss also involved the woman’s driver’s license, with police records not specifying how the money was taken. The crimes were reported on May 17 after having occurred earlier in the month.

    • A Portland chainsaw valued at $180 was stolen from Harbor Freight Tools on Carter Street by an unknown suspect on May 17.

The chainsaw was described as a 42cc gas-powered model.
