A regular open house series at a local landmark which is held at this time of the month will undergo a change for the coming weekend due to another event in the area.

Normally, the Edwards-Franklin House receives visitors during a Saturday and Sunday schedule on the second weekend of each month.

However, for June’s purposes, it will be open this Sunday only, from 1 to 5 p.m.

The Saturday date was dropped because the Surry County Historical Society, which owns the Edwards-Franklin House and coordinates activities there, will host a sonker and publication booth at the Ground Steak Festival that day in Dobson.

Sunday’s open house, offering tours of the 1799 structure, is free to the public.

Historical Society President Dr. Annette Ayers is urging everyone to attend both Saturday’s Dobson festival and the event at the Edwards-Franklin House on Sunday.

It is located at 4132 Haystack Road west of Mount Airy.
