    • A Mount Airy man has been jailed under a large secured bond on a felony probation violation and drug charge, according to city police reports.

    Joshua Allen Settle, 36, of 303 Highland Drive, was encountered by officers during a June 11 traffic stop at a restaurant on Rockford Street.

    Settle was found to be the subject of an outstanding order for arrest on the probation matter which had been filed in June 2023, and also was charged during the June 11 arrest with possession of methamphetamine and possessing marijuana paraphernalia.

    He was held in the Surry County Jail under a total $15,500 secured bond and slated for a July 8 appearance in District Court.

    • Sow Doriant Matamba, 37, of 131 Taylor St., was jailed without privilege of bond Sunday on a charge of assault on a female, with his fiance, Medina Judith Rodrieguez, listed as the alleged victim who was punched in the face at that location.

    Matamba, reportedly taken into custody on Orchard Street near Willow Street during an investigation of the domestic assault, is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on July 22.

    • Linda Speas Duncan, 54, listed as homeless, was charged with second-degree trespassing late on the night of June 12 after she was found sleeping in a locked public restroom along the Granite City Greenway behind the Roses shopping center.

    Duncan had been banned from the greenway by a city police sergeant in January 2020. She was incarcerated under a $100 secured bond and is to be in District Court next Monday.

    • Carter Bank and Trust on Willow Street was victimized in a false-pretense crime reported to police on June 6 in which a known suspect had obtained an undisclosed sum of money by depositing two forged checks.

    The suspect checks were listed as being from Skyline National and First Community banks. No arrest had been made at last report.
