    • An encounter with officers at a license checkpoint last Thursday has led to a Mount Airy man’s incarceration under a $75,000 secured bond on felony drug charges, according to city police reports.

    Tristan Lee Sanderson, 24, of 180 Plum Tree Trail, is accused of possessing a Schedule VI controlled substance with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver; maintaining a drug vehicle/dwelling; simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance; possessing a concealed handgun; and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

    Sanderson was found with those items during a search at the license checkpoint on Riverside Drive at Linville Road, arrest records state.

    He is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on July 15.

    • Travis Dwayne Hardy, 42, of 1402 McKinney Road, was charged Saturday with driving while impaired and driving while license revoked from a previous DWI conviction after a traffic stop at Modwash on Rockford Street.

    Testing revealed Hardy to have a blood-alcohol content of 0.25%, more than three times the legal limit for getting behind the wheel.

    Hardy, who was operating a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup, was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $3,500 secured bond and slated for a July 29 appearance in District Court.

    • Police learned Friday of a case involving larceny and the obtaining of property by false pretense which had occurred at Walmart the day before.

    A known suspect is said to have stolen four Catfish Pro fishing rods valued at $320 and returned a portion of the merchandise for a gift card of undisclosed value.

    No arrest had occurred at last report.

    • Motorcyclist Zachariah John Gibbons, 35, of 406 Jessup St., is facing a felony charge of fleeing/eluding arrest with a motor vehicle after a June 18 police pursuit on N.C. 89 near U.S.52.

    Gibbons, who was operating a 2004 custom Harley-Davidson valued at $4,000, also is accused of driving while impaired and failing to burn headlamps on a motorcycle.

    Testing showed his blood-alcohol level to be 0.15%, nearly double the legal limit for operating a vehicle.

    Gibbons was held in the Surry County Jail under a $1,000 secured bond and was scheduled to be in District Court on Monday of this week.
