Garbage collection for the city of Bridgeport will remain with the same company. The Bridgeport City Council Tuesday moved to roll over it’s existing contract with Republic Services. Mayor Tyler Griffin told Giant FM WAKO News that the new contract will begin in September of this year and will include some rate increases for customers that were already in the original language. The council did enter into a lengthy executive session of close to an hour, but took no action after emerging from discussions on a new water sales contract with the South Lawrence Water Corporation and also personnel matters.

Fire guts Old Decker school building
DECKER — The old Decker school building was still smoldering Wednesday from a 7:45 p.m. Tuesday fire that drew response from nine area fire departments. Johnson Township Fire Chief Jeff Holscher said Wednesday morning that the cause of the fire was still under investigation by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Gibson Co.: Suspicious Vehicle Call Leads to Arrest of Two on Drug Charges
The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office says two women were arrested around 12:30 Wednesday morning for Possession of Methamphetamine and Paraphernalia. 37-year-old Courtney Hale of Owensville and 44-year-old Sarah Hyatt of Princeton were arrested when deputies located illegal drugs while investigating a report of a vehicle that had a flat tire in the area of County Roads 500 North and 650 East.

LAWRENCEVILLE CITY COUNCIL
The legal effort to get rid of the former Lawrenceville High School property will be centered in New Jersey. The city council Thursday night voted to enter into an agreement with a legal firm based in that state to represent them in a bankruptcy filing by the owner of the property. That filing occurring in New Jersey led to the action, taken after a lengthy executive session with city attorney Mike Neal. Mayor David Courtney told Giant-FM WAKO News that they anticipated some additional legal hurdles in their effort to have the property remediated as a health and safety hazard to the community. The council also approved on second reading the annual appropriation ordinance for FY 2024-25 of approximately $6.3 million.

VINCENNES — Brenda Winkler was named Thursday as the chief nursing officer of Good Samaritan Hospital. Winkler was most recently the director of Perioperative Services and served as the interim CNO from May 2 to June 19. Rob Mclin, Good Samaritan president and CEO, said in a statement that during her interim period, Winkler demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication in guiding Good Samaritan’s clinical areas.

70-year-old woman arrested after crashing car into liquor store, deputies say
GIBSON CO., Ind. (WFIE) - A woman from Oakland City was arrested Sunday after deputies say she drove an SUV into a liquor store on the south side of town. That’s according to Gibson County Sheriff Bruce Vanoven, who tells us deputies were called to the Oak 2 Barrel Liquor on Mulberry Street for that accident.
Vincennes School Board approves several hires
The Vincennes Community School Board approved several personnel matters on Monday. The regular monthly meeting was the last one before school starts next month. At the meeting the board voted unanimously in favor of hiring Amy Theriac as a 3rd grade teacher at Tecumseh-Harrison Elementary. She would be moving to Vincennes from a teaching teaching position in Illinois.
