LAWRENCE COUNTY ARRESTS
The Lawrence County Sheriffs Department (LCSD) arrested a wanted Richland County woman early Tuesday morning. Taken into custody was 24 year old Aradia Thompson of Olney. She was wanted on a warrant for Failure to Appear in Court and was also charged with Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine. She was booked into the Lawrence County Jail and was being held there. The LCSD Tuesday arrested 30 year old Jared Lee of Lawrenceville on charges of Domestic Battery and Probation Violation. He was booked into the Lawrence County Jail and was being held there pending a detention hearing.
Driver released from scene of crash into Wilbert Vault building
FORT BRANCH — An Owensville woman reported pain to her forearm, chest and neck following a Wednesday accident on U.S. 41 in Fort Branch, but signed a statement of refusal of treatment with medics who responded to the scene, according to accident reports released by the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office Friday.
Cub League stars have busy weekend
Three team championships and one individual playing in a special tournament highlighted a busy weekend for some of the Vincennes Cub League's all-stars. The 12U all-stars, 9U all-stars, and 6U all-stars all claimed championship rings in their tournaments, while Caroline Yenne is representing the Cub League this week by participating in the Baseball For All tournament in Elizabethtown, Ky., which began Sunday.

PRINCETON — An outstanding combined pitching performance from Nick Wangler and Mattox Hinkle, combined with a consistent approach at the plate offensively throughout the lineup, spurred the Head Coach Brent Denbo-led Princeton Post 25 Seniors past Madisonville, 10-0, in a five-inning, run-rule rout Friday night at Gil Hodges Field.
Robinson Takes Undefeated Record To District 1 Championships Series Against Olney Tonight
Robinson and Olney will play today for the District 1 Tournament with Robinson currently in the driver’s seat at 3-0 in tournament action after last night. In the opener, Robinson handed Olney their first loss in the semifinal 7-1. Elliott Jansen won his 2nd game of the tournament, going the distance with 13 strikeouts.
Gibson County Fair to kick off Sunday
GIBSON COUNTY— The 168th Gibson County Fair will kick off on Sunday, July 7th. The fair will run from July 7th through the 13th at 709 North Embree Street in Princeton. Organizers say there will be free admission for lunch until 2 p.m. on Sunday, with some food booths opening at 11 a.m.
“Best Of” Fall Sports—Top Football Game of the Year
Our Top Football Game of the Year is the Vandals’ 34 to 22 win at Lawrenceville in Round 1 of the Playoffs. The Vandals jumped out to a 14 to 0 lead with 5:20 remaining in the first half. But, Lawrenceville would score twice in the next 4:09 including two point conversions to take a 16 to 14 lead at halftime. The game would remain that way until the Vandals got a TD with 2:36 remaining in the 3rd quarter to regain the lead at 20 to 16. After extending the lead to 27 to 16, Kannon Wollerman had an Interception/Pick 6 to extend the Vandals lead to 34 to 16 and they would go on to win, 34 to 22. This was the Vandals 6th playoff win in the past 7 seasons.
“Best Of” Fall Sports—Fall Coach of the Year
Our Coach of the Year for the Fall of 2023 is Vandals Football Coach Jason Clay. After losing a very talented Senior group after the 2022 season, the Vandals kept their playoff streak going in 2023 with a 6 win regular season to earn an automatic playoff berth and then winning a road playoff game at Lawrenceville in Round One.
Jerry McGarvey
Jerry McGarvey, 85, of Grayville, Illinois, died Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born July 16, 1938, in Grayville, Illinois, the son of William Raymond McGarvey and Jewel (Simmons) McGarvey. He was married to Betty (Carr) McGarvey on December 31, 1975, and she survives.

LAWRENCEVILLE ARRESTS
Lawrenceville Police report two people were charged with Domestic Battery over the Fourth of July weekend. Both 38 year old Timothy Marshall of Lawrenceville and 26 year old Alexandria Rupp of Bridgeport were arrested for the offense and both were booked into the Lawrence County Jail. Both were being held there pending a detention hearing.
LOCAL FIRE
Units of the Lawrence-Allison Fire Protection District and the Christy Fire District responded in mutual aid to the Bridgeport Fire Protection District at a rural weekend fire. There were no reported injuries and additional details on the incident were not immediately available.
HALL OF FAME MURAL DEDICATION
The LHS/LTHS Hall of Fame Committee hosted a dedication and ribbon cutting Sunday afternoon for it’s commissioned mural honoring the four Indian state basketball championships and the architect behind them-Coach Ron Felling. The coach and members of his family were on hand for the ceremony in front of the work located on the side of the old Magnus building on Jefferson Street in downtown Lawrenceville. The mural was painted by area artist Bob Treece of Olney and was privately funded at a cost of $20,000. Also during the ceremony, Lawrenceville Mayor David Courtney presented the coach with a key to the city in honor of his bringing recognition to the city. Felling coached Indian basketball for 22 years and amassed a 358 win-78 loss record over those years with those 4 Class A titles and a third place finish.
HEATH 2024 MISS LAWRENCE COUNTY
Congratulations to Tess Heath, the 18 year old daughter of Neil and Beth Heath of Bridgeport. She was crowned as the new 2024 Lawrence County Fair Queen at the pageant held Saturday night. She was selected from among 7 contestants and succeeds Miss Lawrence County 2023 Rylee Casarotto. Heath was also the People’s Choice award winner. Also congratulations to 13 year old Finley Hering who won the Junior Miss Lawrence County crown and Adalynn Bridwell who won the Little Miss Lawrence County. All three will now reign over the remainder of the fair, which continues through Saturday at the fairgrounds located on U.S. 50 between Bridgeport and Sumner.
