VINCENNES — Workers on strike from Gemtron, a local glass manufacturer, spoke to city council members to bring attention to the strike at the council meeting Monday night. Margaret L. 'Muggs' Steininger
Margaret L. “Muggs” Steininger, 83, of Vincennes, passed away June 27, 2024. She was born Sept. 22, 1940, in Vincennes, to the late Ray and Helen (Lane) McCrary. She attended Decker Chapel High School. Muggs married the love of her life, William “Bill” Steininger, on Dec. 19, 1970. She was a member of the Decker Chapel United Methodist Church, the Bunco Card Club, and the Eastern Star for 50 years. She proudly worked for 36 years as a school bus driver for the South Knox School Corporation. Margaret also worked on and off for over 25 years at the Holiday Inn and Executive Inn as a waitress.

Disturbance call leads to arrest
PRINCETON — A Princeton man was arrested after police responded to a report of a disturbance in the 800 block of South Hart Street Saturday evening. Sheriff Bruce Vanoven reported deputies responded at 7:13 p.m. with Princeton Police Department, receiving information while en route that a man was shouting at residents in the block and causing a disturbance.
HARPER SPIRIT OF ’76 AWARD WINNER
The Vincennes Fourth of July Committee has announced that it will present the 2024 Spirit of ’76 award to Ellen Harper. Harper was nominated for her dedication, efforts and impact on the Vincennes community, particularly work on the transformation of Main Street in the downtown area. She will serve as the Grand Marshall of the July 4th parade and will then be presented the award following the parade Thursday in the dining room of the Harmony Club located at 111 North Second Street. OWENSVILLE — Sharon Knowles Deal, 75, died Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at her home in Owensville. She was born to James Oliver and Audrie (Rust) Knowles Nov. 28, 1948. She graduated from Owensville High School in 1966. She worked at the Owensville Convalescent Center, the Lakeview Truck Stop and at Holiday Foods in Fort Branch. She was a member Maumee General Baptist Church.

Sharon Irene (Potts) Gladish passed away at Amber Manor Care Center in Petersburg, IN, surrounded by her daughters on June 27, 2024. Born on February 17, 1938, in Petersburg, IN to O.F. and Phoebe (Elkins) Potts, Sharon was the eighth of nine siblings. Sharon graduated from Petersburg High School in 1956. She married Kenneth Gladish on July 6, 1958, and will be laid to rest on what would have been Sharon and Kenneth’s 66th wedding anniversary. She is survived by her sister Nancy (Jerry) Myers of Decatur, TX, daughters Stacy Gladish Woodall of Evansville and Shelly Gladish (John) Simeone of Indianapolis, granddaughters Amy Woodall (Matt) Tate of Chicago, IL, Laura Woodall (Gordon) Werner of Newburgh, step-granddaughter Lily Simeone of Indianapolis, great-grandsons Maxwell Werner, Luke Werner, Benjamin Werner, great-granddaughter Emma Werner, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, and five brothers.

LAWRENCE AUXILIARY TURNS 100
It was a historic day in Lawrenceville Sunday. The American Legion Auxiliary Lawrence Unit 28 celebrated 100 years of existence. The occasion was highlighted with a recognition dinner at the Lawrenceville American Legion Post located at 1111 Walnut Street. Among the dignitaries on hand for the affair was Lawrenceville Mayor David Courtney, local and state Legion officials and guest speaker Sharon Conatser-past national president of the American Legion Auxiliary. She had high praise for the continuing work of the auxiliary and it’s members who serve veterans, veteran’s families, children and youth throughout the community.
