Board of Review: Day Two Features McArthy’s Enfield Property and Two Grayville Businesses Vying for Appeal
The final day of Board of Review hearings on property taxes is in the books and property owners are no doubt anxiously awaiting written responses. The Board of Review made up of Ron Wooten, Jim Taylor, and Michael Brown couldn’t give a solid date on when those would be issued, however.
Kathy Lynn Ficklin
Kathy Lynn Ficklin, 68, of Petersburg, passed away June 25, 2024 at her home. She was born July 24, 1955 in Indianapolis, IN to Wiley and Dixie (Reuss) Marchbanks. Kathy graduated from Petersburg High School Class of 1973. She faithfully attended the Maple Grove Pentecostal Church. Kathy married her husband of 50 years, Ron Ficklin, on December 1, 1973. She worked for many years at Citizens State Bank and through the transition to German American Bank holding many positions during those years. Kathy was a woman of devout faith and loved her Lord Jesus Christ. One of her favorite things to do was spending time with family and those she loved. She never knew a stranger and will always be known for her outgoing personality and sense of humor.

VINCENNES — Knox County Public Library hosted "The Mystery of Cacklewood Forest" puppet show Wednesday in a free performance at the Fortnightly Club. Roz Puppets presented the story of a mouse's venture into the woods to find the missing ingredient for his family soup recipe.

Keep fireworks safety, statute in mind as July 4 approaches
Petersburg Fire Chief Ross Elmore wants to see everyone stay safe over the Fourth of July holiday weekend and shared the following information for our community:. Dates and TimesGenerally, state statute says fireworks may be discharged between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. any day except on Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and New Years Eve. When the times are 9:00 a.m. to Midnight. Petersburg City Ordinance changed in 2023 to allow fireworks on July 1, 2, and 3, only and after 5:00 p.m. to two hours after sunset. On July 4, hours are 10:00 a.m. to Midnight.

VINCENNES - Family, friends and officials in Vincennes gathered to celebrate and witness the ribbon cutting of Lou Fusz CJDR auto dealership of Vincennes on Tuesday. Randy Fusz, president CEO said that after purchasing the dealerships from the Watson family a few months back, they wanted to host a grand opening for the Vincennes location, making this their fourth location in the state.

Apollo, a 2 1/2 year-old Siberian Husky, is the Vincennes Animal Shelter pet of the week. Apollo is good with other dogs, but would do best in a home without cats. He knows “sit,” “shake,” and “lay down" commands. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. He has some separation anxiety, so a potential adopter would need to be aware of that and plan accordingly. For more information, contact the animal shelter at 812-882-8826.

From 5/25/2024 to 6/25/2024 PPD had 160 incidents and made nine arrests. During this month we served two search warrants on two different properties and made five arrests including charges of Dealing in Meth- amphetamine, Possession of Meth- amphetamine, Maintaining and Visiting a Common Nuisance and more. The other non related arrests included charges of Battery, Criminal Trespass, DUI, and Possession of Marijuana.
Ann Janet Addison
BELLEVUE, Nebraska Ann Janet Addison, 79, formerly of Vincennes, was born March 15, 1945, and died June 17, 2024. Ann, or Annie as loved ones called her, attended Lincoln High School of Vincennes and was a graduate of Indiana State University. She taught third and fourth grade over 30 years at Avery Elementary School. She was positive and energetic about teaching and served on many committees. "Ann could teach the phone book and make it sound interesting." She was a Sunday school teacher, 4-H leader, Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader earning herself the Gold Award. She was involved in the Lewis and Clark Project, was an avid gardener, bird and nature enthusiast. Genealogy and family connection was of importance to her. Ann was married for 56 years and took pride in being a mother and grandmother.

Excerpts from stories published in the June 30-July 4, 1924 editions of The Vincennes Sun:. • James John Brady, the 82-year-old runaway from Vincennes who came on to New York to attend the Democratic National Convention without telling the folks at home where he was going, was the guess of Mrs. Louise Closser Hale last evening at “Expressing Willie” at the Forty-eighth street theatre. Mrs. Hale, who plays the part of “Willie’s mother” in the play, read about Mr. Brady’s escapade and hied herself right over to the Traveler’s Aid society to meet this representative from home. “As one Indianer to another,” said Mrs. Hale, “I made up my mind that he shouldn’t be sent back until he’d had a party, anyway.” So she invited him to see “Willie.”
