LAWRENCEVILLE ARRESTS
Lawrenceville Police earlier this week arrested two Lawrence County men. Both 41 year old Ryan Brandon and 47 year old Timothy Colclasure both of Lawrenceville were charged with Domestic Battery. Each was booked into the Lawrence County Jail and were being held on those charges pending a detention hearing.
Phillip E. Barrett Sr.
Phillip E. Barrett Sr., 67, of Winslow, Ind., passed away peacefully at home, June 20, 2024, losing his battle with cancer. Phillip is the son of Denver and Georgia Barrett. Phillip is survived by his mother; wife of 48 years, Kathy; his dog, Buddy; children, Phillip Jr. (Dyla) Barrett, Karen (John) Stanton, Andrew (Jessica) Barrett, Adam (Whitney) Barrett, Mary (Doug) Campbell, Tylor (Cheyenne) Barrett, Danny (Tabby) Deweese and Paul Branum; 16 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters, Debbie (Larry) Holeman, Rita (Kenny) Sharp and Sheila Boger; and several nieces and nephews.

Lara Lynn (Clay) Sampson, 42, Vincennes, died May 18, 2024. She was a registered nurse. Survivors include her husband, Matthew Sampson; their children, Jeffrey Seibert, Kaylin Seibert, Kaitlynn Sampson, Madison Sampson, Hunter Sampson, Kolton Sampson and Mason Sampson; paternal grandmother, Barbara Woodard; her brothers and sister, Paul Clay, Dave Clay, Jeff Clay and Lona Snodey.
County posted 3.8% May jobless rate
VINCENNES — Knox County's May unemployment rate increased from 3.1% in April to 3.8% in May, and is .6% higher than the 3.3% May 2023 jobless rate. Indiana Workforce Development's monthly report released Wednesday shows the county's labor force decreased from 17,835 in May 2023 to 17,513 in April, but increased to 17,571 in May. Comparatively, 562 residents were looking for jobs in May 2023, 551 seeking work in April this year and 665 last month.

Gibson Southern’s Gabby Spink commits to Murray St.
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Gabby Spink has announced that she’s committing to Murray State to continue playing basketball. Spink won the Indiana 3A state championship this past year with Gibson Southern. The junior guard averaged 19 points per game and was named a Junior All-Star.
Red Skelton Parade Staying with Skelton Comedy Convention
The annual Red Skelton Festival will be remade into the Red Skelton Comedy Convention this year. The event will be held on Saturday, July 20th. One part of the activity that will be the same is the annal Red Skelton Parade. Organizer Anne Pratt received approval to use the traditional downtown Vincennes Homecoming parade route that day for the annual Skelton parade. The parade will start at 12 noon on July 20th.

Robert Apple
Robert N. Apple, 90, of Vincennes, Indiana, passed from this life on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital. He was born in Sandborn, Indiana, on October 16, 1933, to Ralph B. and Thelma Pauline (McKean) Apple. On February 21, 1964, Robert married Thelma Roberta ‘Bobbi’ (Belka). To this marriage of over 40 years, Robert and Bobbi were blessed with two children. Robert joined the US Air Force and first became a pilot at Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix, AZ. He later worked in supply chain at Grissom Air Force Base and retired as a Lt. Colonel with 23 years of service. Then in 1964, he came back to the family farm in Sandborn, where he became a full-time farmer. Robert was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ, the Elnora Masonic Lodge #616 F & AM, the Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, and the Zorah Shrine of Terre Haute. Surviving family members who cherish memories of Robert include his companion, Mary Pahmeier; a son, Neil (Angela) Apple of Pittsburgh, PA; a daughter, Karen Apple (Gloria Gutierrez) of Phoenix, AZ; and two grandchildren, Seth and Ethan Apple.Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bobbi, and his brother, Glen Apple.Funeral Services will be at the Community Church of Vincennes, 1548 S. Hart Street Road, Vincennes, Indiana. The service will begin at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024, a Masonic Memorial service with Elnora Masonic Lodge #616 F & AM, followed by funeral services with Pastor Darren Williams officiating. Burial will follow at a later date with American Legion Post #22 conducting Graveside Rites.A visitation for family and friends will be at the Community Church of Vincennes the evening of Tuesday, June 25th, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. and from 10 am until the our of service Wednesday.Arrangements and care have been entrusted to Meng Family Funeral Homes, Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton. Norman Lewis Bishop, formerly of Raleigh
Norman Lewis Bishop, 93, a proud resident of Olney, passed away on June 15 after a life richly lived in service of his country and devotion to his family. Norman was born June 14, 1931, in Raleigh to Clive and Elizabeth Bishop (deceased). He often recounted fond memories from his childhood on his family’s farm, particularly those with his horse, High-toned Kentucky Rex. He graduated from Eldorado Township High School and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

The State of Indiana could give Vincennes Cub League a matching grant of up to 50-thousand dollars for dollars raised in a Crowdfunding campaign. Toyota Recalls 145,000 SUVs Over Airbag Safety Concern
Toyota is recalling approximately 145,000 SUVs due to a potential issue with the driver’s side curtain shield airbag. The recall affects certain 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX models. According to Toyota, the airbag may not deploy properly in specific crash scenarios if the driver’s window is down. This safety concern has prompted the recall of vehicles manufactured at Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Princeton. The automaker is actively working on a solution to address the issue.
